After School Art Education

Our nationally recognized after-school arts program for high school students is designed to educate and inspire any young person who has an interest in the arts and creative self-expression. Learning through the arts connects students with a world of ideas and aspirations for life, higher education and careers.

The Apprenticeship Training Program, as we call our after school arts education program, runs weekdays from 3-5 p.m. during the school year. At no cost to Pittsburgh Public School high school students and for a minimal fee to other eligible participants, class sizes are kept small with a ratio of 1 teacher per 8 students so everyone has an opportunity to develop a personal relationship with their instructor.

In addition to our staff of teaching artists, we also host regionally, nationally and even internationally renowned visiting artists. These artists conduct workshops, guide our students in the creation of artwork, and help students prepare their work for exhibition.

Courses are offered in all four studios —Ceramics, Design Arts, Digital Arts, and Photography.

Ceramics studio

Our ceramics studio, dedicated to Frank Ross, is equipped with a slab roller, 16 potter’s wheels, a myriad of hand-building tools, 3 electric kilns and 4 gas kilns including raku.
